In this presentation instructors from Columbia’s Hindi-Urdu language program will discuss the process of making, publishing, and incorporating new thematic video modules into the curriculum. These modules, filmed in India with the support of a STARTALK grant, are based on real life situations with varied linguistic, social and cultural contents. They are short, unscripted, unrehearsed and non-sequential and offer samples of authentic Hindi speech. Based on ACTFL guidelines and National Standards (5Cs), these modules can be used to engage students in the three modes of communication in a classroom in different skills.
