Smart Classrooms
The LRC supports two smart classrooms located at 254IAB and 255IAB. each is equipped with a multi-standard VCR, a DVD player, a Satellite TV tuner, video/audio conference capabilities, a high-end projector, and 64" projection whiteboards by Smart Technologies, which allow instructors to interact with the content displayed on the screen.

Audio - Video Classrooms
The LRC also supports a viewing room located at 352A IAB. It has a 50" plasma screen, a multi–standard VCR, a DVD player, a surround sound system and a dual-processor Apple computer.
Multimedia Studio
Located at 351A International Affairs Building, the Language Resouce Center's Multimedia Studio has been designed to allow faculty to create and edit digital media.
It is equipped with a multi-standard VCR, a DVD player, a Satellite TV tuner and software to assist faculty in video and sound editing, web design, and multimedia authoring.
Five computers are available for use in the LRC Studio: one dedicated to audio recording, another to video editing, and three for general usage. Each workstation is a 24" iMac and is capable of CD and DVD creation. Authorized users receive 5GB of network storage space for their projects and can also request temporary increases or long term storage.

Audio Recording
Used exculsively for audio recordings created in the LRC sound booth, this Protools workstation is connected to a Digidesign Digi002 control surface, providing the hardware and software needed to create professional quality audio recordings and audio restoration. Also available on this computer are Apple Logic Pro, Bias SoundSoap, and Audacity.
Video Production
Focusing on digital video, this workstation allows users of all levels to capture, create, and edit video of all types using Apple iMovie and Apple FinalCut Pro. Included in this setup is a multi-standard VHS player, a DVD player, a MiniDV player, and a DISH Satellite PVR with international programming. Each of these sources can be edited and then outputted to NTSC format VHS, Region 1 DVD, MiniDV, or virtually any standard digital format.
General Use
Three of the studio's computers are designed for multiple uses: audio recording and editing (Audacity), video capture and editing (iMovie), image scanning and manipulation (Adobe Photoshop), document creation (Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word), and web design (Adobe Creative Suite CS3).
Although this facility is open for use by all language instructors, reservations are required to avoid scheduling conflicts. First time users of the Studio must complete and submit a LRC Studio Terms of Use form to be granted physical and network access.

Language Lab

Located at 352 IAB. The facility has 36 Apple 20" iMac computers available for student use. The lab has full access to the multimedia assets used by the Columbia University's language programs. Microsoft Office and multi-language input (including non-Western characters) provide international word processing capabilities.
LRC Faculty Area
Located at 351 IAB, the Language Resouce Center's Faculty Area is not only a hi-tech computing facility but also a community meeting place for all language instructors.
Nine workstations are available for use by LRC instructors in the LRC Faculty Area. Each workstation is an Apple iMac G4 and is capable of CD creation. There is also a monochrome LaserJet printer available for low capacity printing. Authorized users receive 2GB of network storage space for their documents and can also request temporary increases or long term storage. Software available on the Facutly Area workstations includes Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), Internet Browsers (Safari, Firefox) and Media Players (Quicktime, Real Player, Windows Media Player, VLC).
Although this facility is open for use by all language instructors, first time users must complete and submit a LRC Computing Terms of Use form to be granted physical and network access.
