DESCRIPTION:Please and come attend the LRC’s Instructional Innovation Project Presentations this Friday\, March 29th from 3-4 pm! The speakers at the event will include Juan Pablo Cominguez (LAIC) and Patrizia Palumbo and Alessandra Saggin (both Italian Studies). *Hosted on Zoom: columbiauniversity.zoom.us/j/8472087081 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**There will be two back-to-back talks:\n\nTalk 1 with Patrizia Palumbo and Alessandra Saggin (Department of Italian) | Title: The Capitals of Italian Culture\n\nAbstract: This project consists in an online platform that may be used as a resource for the teaching and learning of Italian at the intermediate and advanced levels. The platform aims to develop and deepen the knowledge of the cultural specificity of the most prominent Italian cities\, as well as of their intercultural connection. The online component will comprise 10 sections\, each dedicated to a city that\, over the centuries\, has enormously contributed to the diversity and enrichment of Italian culture and language. Each section of the platform will include audio and visual materials as well as poetry\, fiction and non-fiction texts\, movies\, tv series\, and news. These digital materials will be all accompanied by a variety of interactive tasks intending to test reading and listening comprehension skills\, expand vocabulary\, suggest ideas for compositions\, research\, collaborative projects\, and oral presentations\, and provide topics for conversation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTalk 2 with Juan Pablo Cominguez (LAIC) | Title: “A Digital Approach to Teaching and Learning Grammar: The Case of Spanish for Specific Purposes Revisited.”\n\nAbstract: This presentation will describe the design and execution of a series of pedagogical videos for teaching and learning grammar in an intermediate-level course in Medical Spanish\, and their crucial role in the development of cross-cultural communicative competence.

SUMMARY:Heritage Language Pedagogy Talk
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, March 29th\, the LRC will be hosting an in-person discussion on Heritage Language Pedagogy relating to Heritage language Education: Issues and Challenges. \nIn this talk\, we will outline the current state of the field of heritage language education in US post-secondary institutions. After reflecting on some of the major issues that have been addressed in the research over the past 20 years or so\, including defining heritage learners and identifying appropriate pedagogical strategies\, the talk will touch on some of the current directions in the field. The lecture will end by discussing the challenges of developing or creating an HL program.
