The NEALLT’ 24 virtual conference will be hosted by the Columbia University Language Resource Center. \nThis year’s theme is: Writing Innovations in the Language Classroom \nWriting has been a perennial challenge in the foreign language classroom\, a challenge that has only been accentuated by the emergence of digital tools such as online translators and generative AI. At the same time\, new technologies have enabled forms and formats of writing that previously were not possible. NEALLT 2024 will focus on the theme of “Writing Innovation in the Language Classroom\,” and will seek papers that address challenges and opportunities as the practice of writing for language learning has evolved. \nKeynote Presentation | “Reconceptualizing Writing Instruction in the Age of Generative AI” by Paul Kei Matsuda \nPaul Kei Matsuda is Professor of English and Director of Second Language Writing at Arizona State University\, where he works closely with doctoral students specializing in second language writing from various disciplinary perspectives. Paul is Founding Chair of the Symposium on Second Language Writing and Series Editor of the Parlor Press Series on Second Language Writing. Former President of the American Association for Applied Linguistics\, he has also served as the founding chair of the CCCC Committee on Second Language Writing and the chair of the Nonnative English Speakers in TESOL (NNEST) at TESOL International Association.

SUMMARY:2024 Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (NECTFL) Conference Day III
DESCRIPTION:From February 22-24th of this 2024\, the NECTFL will be holding their annual conference at New York Hilton Midtown on 1335 Sixth Avenue in New York. The conference is open to anyone interested in professional growth for language teacher. SUMMARY:Yale CLS Brown Bag Series | "The Future of Language Study is Open" with Carl Blyth
DESCRIPTION:Abstract \nCompared with STEM fields\, second language (L2) education has only recently begun to embrace open education and the new knowledge ecologies it produces. L2 educators may have been hesitant to participate in the open education movement due to a lack of research which investigates the benefits and challenges of L2 learning and teaching in open environments. This talk contextualizes open education in L2 learning and teaching in terms of a dynamic ecology\, along with a discussion of how the open movement affects L2 education beyond the classroom context. Also discussed will be the new ways of creating\, adapting and curating OER for language learning. The talk ends by describing openness as a key design feature of future scholarly endeavor.\n*Please see the reading material attached to the event. \nSpeaker’s Bio \nCarl S. Blyth is Associate Professor of French Linguistics\, and Director of the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning at the University of Texas at Austin\, USA. His research interests include discourse analysis\, intercultural pragmatics and language learning technology. \nRequired Registration \nhttps://cglink.me/2dA/r2192333
