LRC Weekly Language Teaching Colloquium

The LRC Language Teaching Colloquium takes place on Fridays at 3pm throughout the academic year at Zoom meeting 203 508 3989. It is an informal, welcoming space for the Columbia language teaching community to discuss issues relating to distance teaching, and to “cross-pollinate” ideas and practices beyond departmental boundaries.

The format consists of two or three questions centered on a specific topic. Instructors are invited to give brief presentations as well, to spotlight their work and help to develop their ideas.

Colloquium topics have included the following: reflective assignments for building community and equity, using social media in language classes, Google Docs as pedagogical tool, students’ perspectives on distance learning, an end-of-semester Padlet showcase, managing conversation practice, the digital divide, and digital literacies in the language classroom.

Columbia instructors are invited and encouraged to propose topics relevant to them and their teaching. If you would like to propose a topic for the Colloquium, please send an email to ck2831@columbia.edu with your topic idea.
