Tibetan is a language spoken today by over six million people in a region the size of Western Europe. The Columbia Tibetan Language program offers both Classical and Modern Tibetan language courses at the first year, second year, and third year levels.

Classical Tibetan Classes help students gain proficiency in reading a variety of classical Tibetan writing styles and genres, including religious, historical and literary texts. The program serves the Tibetan-language needs of students, including reading texts relevant to thesis research.

Taking courses in Tibetan will allow you to fulfill the language requirement at Columbia.
